HaruoSugi has completed his Ph.D. at the age of 28 years from the University of Tokyo. He worked in Columbia University and the National institutes of Health from 1965 to 1967. He was Professor in Physiology in Teikyo University from 1973 to 2004, when he became Emeritus Professor.

Since January 2002, Dr. Matthew E. Edwards has held the position of Professor of Physics in the Department of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics at Alabama A&M University, Normal, AL and served as Dean, of the School of Arts and Sciences, from 2007 to 2011, a period of 4.5 years. Previous academic positions held by Dr. Edwards prior to 2002 include associate professorships at Spelman College, in Atlanta, GA and Fayetteville State University, in Fayetteville, NC, and he was a visiting associate professor and adjunct faculty member for ten years at the University of Pittsburgh, in Pittsburgh, PA, and an assistant professor of physics at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, in Pine Bluff, AR. Three summer faculty research positions that he held were at the ROME Air Force Research Lab, ROME NY, in 1996, NASA Langley Research Laboratories, Hampton, VA, in 1983, and the Naval Research Lab., Washington, DC, in 1982. Dr. Edwards is a Condensed Matter Physicist with research expertise in (1) materials of electrooptics, (2) pyroelectric/resistivity/dielectric properties of crystals and nano-particles doped organic thin films, (3) the production of large organic thin films, (4) solitons wave theory, and (5) STEM Education research and problem solving. Dr. Edwards has more than 40 publications* (please see the below message). Also, he has guided four students to advanced degrees: three to the Ph.D., and one to the master’s degree, and has served on more than 12 other dissertations and theses committees. Presently, he is guiding two Ph.D. and two master’s degree students. Also, he sits on the Board of Directors of one science journal publication and one for science education.

Dr. Edwards (a scholar/researcher in the physical sciences) holds the Ph.D. and Master’s degree in physics from Howard University, received in 1977 and 1975, respectively, and a B.S degree in engineering physics from North Carolina A&T State University, in 1969. His additional formal studies include: (1) physics courses at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, in 1987, (2) certificate course of the American Chemical Society on Surfactants, Micelles, Liposomes, Liquid Crystals, Emulsions and Microemulsions, at Clarkson College, Potsdam, NY, in 1998. (3) Faculty summer certificate course in materials science at the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa AL, in 2000, and (4) certificate course in “managing technical professionals and organizations at MIT, Boston, MA, in 2009. Dr. Edwards as principal investigator (PI) has also received several minorities-targeted grants from NIH, and one minorities-targeted grant each from NASA and two from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the one summer faculty-targeted grant from the Air Force Office Of Scientific Research. As PI or Co-PI, Dr. Edwards has had several other grants as well.

At AAMU, Dr. Edwards founded the Annual STEM Day, in 2006. Also, he founded in 2009 the IDC-HSHD&M (the Interdisciplinary Center for Health Sciences, Health Disparities, and Materials), which, as a center, has assisted more than 16 young faculty members and others to develop their research programs.

Professor Ramesh K. Agarwal is the William Palm Professor of Engineering and the director of Aerospace Engineering Program and Aerospace Research and Education Center at Washington University in St. Louis from 1994 to 200. He was the Sam Bloomfield Distinguished Professor and Executive Director of the National Institute for Aviation Research at Wichita State University. Dr. Agarwal received Ph.D in Aeronautical Sciences from Stanford University in 1975, M.S. in Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Minnesota in 1969 and B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, India in 1968. Professor Agarwal has worked in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), renewable energy systems and nanotechnology. He is the author and coauthor of over 300 publications and serves on the editorial board of fifteen journals. Dr. Agarwal is a Fellow of fifteen societies including American Association for Advancement of Science (AAAS), American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), American Physical Society (APS), American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), American Academy of Mechanics (AAM), and Institute of Physics. Luisa Amelia Dempere received her Ph.D. in Materials Science from the University of Florida. After receiving her doctorate, she was appointed as the Director of the Major Analytical Instrumentation Center (MAIC). She has been the director of MAIC for the last 14 years, and in 2012 she became also the director of the Particle Analysis Instrumentation Center (PAIC). She is an Engineer faculty in the department of Materials Science and Engineering, and an affiliated faculty in the department of Environmental Engineering Sciences.

Ajay Kumar Mishra has completed his Ph.D. at the age of 30 years from Delhi University and postdoctoral studies from University of the Free State, CSIR, and University of Johannesburg, South Africa. He is the Adjunct Professor at Jiangsu University, China. He has published more than 79 papers in reputed journals and serving as an editorial board member of repute. Professor Ali Eftekhari is the President of the American Nano Society. He has established Department of Electrochemistry at MERC and School of Materials Science & Engineering at Jimma University from scratch. Viswanathan S. Saji has received M.Sc. (1997), M.Phil. (1999) and Ph.D. (2003) degrees from the University of Kerala, India. He was a Research Associate at the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (2004-2005) and the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore (2005-2007). Later, he shifted to South Korea and has been employed as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Yonsei University (2007-2008) and the Sunchon National University (2009); Research Professor at the Chosun University (2008-2009); Senior Research Scientist at the Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (2009-2010) and Research Professor at the Korea University (2010-present). He is (co-)author of more than 40 scientific publications; edited one book and contributed 3 book chapters.

Mufit Akinc is professor the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Iowa State University. He was also chair of the Materials Science and Engineering Department from 1995 to 2006 and served as interim Dean of engineering college in 2012-2013. Currently, he is the Professor-in charge of International Engagements for the College of Engineering at Iowa State University. He holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in chemistry from Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey, and a Ph.D. degree in ceramic engineering from Iowa State University. Before joining ISU as a faculty member in 1981, he was an assistant professor at Kansas State University (1977–1979) and at Middle East Technical University, Turkey (1979–1981). He also served as a liaison scientist at US Office of Naval Research (ONR)-Europe in London (1992–1993) and as curriculum chair of the materials science program at National Technological University (1998–2003). Professor Akinc has recently received Fulbright Senior Lecturer Award for lecturing at Koc University in Istanbul, Turkey. Akinc’s research interests include synthesis and processing of ceramic powders and fibers, intermetallics, bioinspired nano materials, IR transmitting materials, and polymer composite repair. Akinc has published over 180 articles and seven patents. He made approximately 80 invited and 150 contributed talks and lectures around to world. He was appointed three times as a consultant to the United Nations to assist governments of Korea and Turkey. He was also visiting professor at Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne, Switzerland, in 1996 and 1997. He was a senior Fulbright lecturer in 2009 at Koc University, Istanbul Turkey, and EU consultant to Warsaw University of Technology, Warsaw, Poland. He served as an International Advisor to Japan’s National Institute of Materials Science between 2006 and 2010. Dr. Akinc has been elected to the European Academy of Sciences in 2003. He is a Fellow of the American Ceramic Society, the ASM International, and The AAAS. He was elected to the Board of Trustees of ASM in 2008. He is a recipient of the ISU Alumni Association’s faculty citation and received Ross Coffin Purdy Award (Best paper published in 2005) by the American Ceramic Society in 2006. Akinc also served as an associate editor of the Journal of the American Ceramic Society for several years.

Alexander Gorin is a professor of Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus. Currently he is also serving as the Associate Dean (Research) in the Faculty of Engineering Computing and Science. He received his PhD degree in Engineering Science in 1983.Prior to that he served for Curtin University, The University of Auckland, Russian Academy of Science, and as a visiting professor for other universities. Due to his achievements he has been awarded the Higher Doctor of Science degree andtheAcademic titleof Professor. He was a member of numerous organising committees for international conferences, has collaborated with various international institutions. Sergey V. Dorozhkin received his MS in chemical engineering with honors in 1984 from Moscow Institute of Chemical Technology, Moscow, Russia, and PhD in chemistry in 1992 from Research Institute of Fertilizers, Moscow, Russia. From 1992 to 1994 he worked as a senior researcher at the same institute, and from 1994 to 1996 he worked as a biotechnologist at a Swiss–Russia joint venture. From 1996 to 2004 he held five temporary postdoctoral positions on various aspects of calcium orthophosphates at five universities of four countries (France, Portugal, Germany, and Canada). At Present, he serves as a reviewer for several international scientific journals. Dr. Dorozhkin has authored more than 60 research papers, about 20 reviews, 15 book chapters and 3 monographs on different areas related to calcium phosphates and bioceramics.

Sandeep K. Vashist is the Head of Immunodiagnostics at HSG-IMIT, Germany. He completed his Ph.D. from Central Scientific Instruments Organisation, India in 2006 and started his career as a Scientist at Bristol-Myers Squibb Pharmaceutical Company, Ireland (2006-2009). Thereafter, he joined as the Team Leader at NUS Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Initiative, Singapore (2009-2012). He pioneered and transferred successfully many technologies to industries and healthcare; filed several patents; and, published extensively (>100 manuscripts) in high IF journals and highly prestigious conferences. Based on his research outputs, he has been constantly awarded by renowned institutions for scientific research excellence, innovation and performance; received the topmost international research fellowships; and, awarded the invited memberships of societies such as RCS. He is the international expert reviewer for ~36 scientific journals (IF b/w 2.5-41) and numerous funding agencies; Executive Editor of J Basic Appl Sci and J Pharma Bioanal Sci; and Editorial Board member of J Nanomed Nanotech. His research interests are in the fields of nanotechnology, point-of-care devices, immunodiagnostics and biosensors.

Madeleine du Toit is Professor and Head of the Department of Materials Science and Metallurgical Engineering at the University of Pretoria in South Africa. She holds BEng, MEng and PhD degrees in Metallurgical Engineering from the Universities of Pretoria and the Witwatersrand in South Africa. She is registered as a Professional Engineer and as an International Welding Engineer (IWE) with the International Institute of Welding. Prof Du Toit has published extensively in the field of welding metallurgy and regularly consults to industry as welding engineer. She currently serves as President and member of Council of the Southern African Institute of Welding (SAIW). Internationally, she serves as member of the Technology Management Board and as Vice-chairperson of Commission IX (Behaviour of metals subjected to welding) of the International Institute of Welding.

Marcelo Prado has a metallurgical engineer with M.Sc. and Ph.D. on Metallurgical and Materials Science Engineering from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ, Brazil). Part of the Ph.D. was performed in the Interdisciplinary Research Centre in Biomedical Materials (IRC, Queen Mary and Westfield College, University of London). Marcelo Prado was a post doc in the National Institute of Biomedical Engineering (INEB, Univ. Oporto, Portugal) and is currently an Associate Professor in the Military Institute of Engineering (IME, Brazil), being also in chief of the Electron Microscopy Laboratory and Coordinator of the Post Grade Programme on Materials Science. He develops researches on bioceramics synthesis and processing, bioactive glasses and composites and is involved in related researches as supervisor, member of scientific committee of conferences, referee of scientific journals, and international societies.

Dr. Bikramjit Basu is an Associate Professor at Materials Research Center, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore since May, 2011. He is also currently Associate Faculty of Bio-Engineering programme at IISc. He is promoted to the position of Full Professor in March, 2011 at IIT Kanpur. Bikramjit obtained his undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, both in Metallurgical Engineering from National Institute of Technology (NIT), Durgapur and IISc in 1995 and 1997, respectively. He earned his PhD in Ceramics at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium in March, 2001. He joined IIT Kanpur in November 2001 as Assistant Professor after post-doctoral research at University of California (UCSB). In India, Dr. Basu has established a vibrant research program on structural ceramics and functional biomaterials, first at IIT Kanpur and then at IISc. He has authored/co-authored more than 175 peer-reviewed research papers with twenty papers in Journal of American Ceramic Society. H-index of his publications is 22 and total citation is 1808 (www.scopus.com). He edited a book on Biomaterials (2008) and authored two textbooks as first author in each case - one on Structural Ceramics (2011) and the other on Tribology (2011), all published by John Wiley & Sons, Inc., USA. He serves on the editorial board of twelve international peer-reviewed journals, including J. Biomedical Materials Research-B and contributes as reviewer of more than 20 SCI journals. He is one of the Editors of the Journal of Asian Ceramic Societies.

Dr. Hai-Feng (Frank) Ji received his PhD degree of chemistry from Chinese Academy of Science, China, in 1996. He is current an associate professor of Department of Chemistry, Drexel university. His research interests focus on MEMS devices, organic nanoelectronics, MOF materials for energy and environmental applications, drug discovery, nanopillars and phosphene for energy applications, and surface chemistry. He is currently a co-author of 130 peer-viewed journal articles and book chapters.
